AS a way of stopping violence against women, Emmanuel Ikubese, Mr Nigeria 2014/2015, has launched a campaign against domestic violence project tagged: R.A.W (Respect A Woman). The launch took place at Ibru garden Victoria Island Lagos last Sunday and had big names like Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Ibru Family and a host of others in attendance.
Speaking at the launch, Ikubese stated that something has to be done about the issue of domestic violence as it is getting more rampant without getting the attention it deserves.
“What we are doing with project RAW is creating a value of respect because we believe respect goes a long way in solving the issue of violence against women. Also we intend to create that value. It’s a reorientation campaign.
“We are going back to the basics. We need to train men how to respect women as kids. As a woman growing up you are oriented how to look after your man, how to respect your husband. When you are serving his meal you need to go down, you need to make sure you serve him four pieces of meat you know you need to serve him the food hot, these are the values you learn as a kid growing up.
What happens to the male child? No one takes time to teach him how to value a woman, how to really handle situations because yes we know women can really push you some times and that is why they are women but that doesn’t mean you should come upon them and hurt them. It needs to stop, respect needs to be taken back to our roots,” he said.
