Oracle makes case for ‘cloud’
For Oracle’s stand point, the future looks grim for the current On-Premise operating model which many companies adopt for their Information Technology needs. Research shows that IT equipment is aging faster-up to 30 % in some industries. An average of 80 percent of companies’ IT budget is spent on maintenance and integration rather than innovation and progress. Yet system failures are increasing and despite cybersecurity spending growing at 10 percent per year, 95 percent of networks have been breached.
The solution to all these, Oracle says is to look up, literarily to the Cloud. This was the focus of the Oracle cloud day which held in Lagos recently. Managing Director for Oracle Nigeria said: “The world is moving from On-premise to cloud. The train has left already; that is the future. Cloud computing provides better, more reliable security at the lowest cost with the least complexity and more rapid innovation.”
The event sought to bring together private and public sector players, creating a platform for networking with experts and business peers, in the form of themed tracks/sessions with unique agendas that focus on various aspects of cloud computing. “The biggest challenges that would have made companies reluctant to migrate to cloud have been solved by Oracle,” said the Oracle Nigeria Boss, “we have the capacity to take our customers to the cloud and we have the statistics to show. 19 of the 20 top cloud providers run on Oracle. 75 percent of the Fortune 100 companies run Oracle cloud. We have 19 data centres in 195 countries with about 70 million subscribers running over 33 billion transactions a day.”
Secure software
During the event, the participants had the opportunity to learn how to reduce risk and complexity in their businesses by using the most comprehensive, secure Software as a Service ( SaaS ) , Platform as a Service ( PaaS ) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud offerings on the market.
The Enterprise Technology Challenge organised by the Co-Creation Hub, and sponsored by Oracle as a platinum sponsor, was designed to mobilize Nigerian software developers and designers to build innovative, locally appealing and relevant web and mobile apps that enable & support small & growing businesses in Nigeria.
