The controversial baby ‘abduction’ saga, involving Hip hop artiste, David Adeleke and the mother of his child, Sophia Momodu has continued to generate reactions from the public, even as close relations of the former lovers and concerned citizens continue to give their views on the matter.
Although the matter is already in court, none of the warring parties has honoured the invitation of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and Other Related Offences, following a petition filed by Sophia’s lawyer against the Adeleke family for alleged abduction of the child, Imade.
In a letter addressed to The Nation Tuesday, notable filmmaker, Ola Balogun, while reacting to Davido’s published account of the incident, said he was heartbroken “to read about what young Mr. Adeleke has been going through at the hands of Mr. and Mrs Dele Momodu and their neice (or cousin?).”
Davido, 23, had described is experience with Sophia, 28 as an ordeal in the hands of an older lover whom he said took advantage of his compassion, ignorance and vaivety – this has earned him sympathy from the likes of Dr. Balogun.
According to the singer, “My compassion, ignorance, naivety and poor judgement had combined to make me a victim to a much older lady with super cunning sense that was mixed with a vicious and diabolical nature. I stand accused but calmly accepted my responsibility for the sad misadventure that caused me to be a seat-mate with Sophia on a plane that was flying nowhere.”
If Davido’s account is true, queried Balogun, “the activities of the Momodus deserve to be roundly condemned by all right-thinking Nigerians.
“One already knew Dele Momodu to be a sycophant who has spent most of his adult life licking the boots of so-called wealthy Nigerians, unmindful of how these folks came about their money, but this latest instance of unprincipled behaviour on his part is a far more serious kind of transgression, given the fact that the life and well-being of a very young baby who is battling with serious medical problems is at stake.
“Shouldn’t the baby’s interests be paramount?
“As for the mother of the baby, she should be thoroughly ashamed of herself for having inflicted so much pain and suffering on her child as a result of her alleged drug habits.
“If I understand rightly, the young lady is able-bodied. Why doesn’t she go and seek gainful employment somewhere, instead of partying all over the place and expecting the father of her child to pick up extravagant bills? Why must she consider Davido a personal ATM that is there to cough up money on demand at each instant?
It is really too bad!
“In conclusion, one must congratulate Davido for the deep maturity, sense of responsibility, decency, forbearance and manliness he has displayed all through this terrible ordeal.
“Unbeknown to him, he has proved himself to be more than old enough and mature enough to be equal to the task of being a father.
“I hope and pray for Imade’s good health and future happiness and well-being.”
Davido had earlier uploaded a medical ‘report’ online, indicating that Sophia allegedly tested positive to cannabis.
Momodu described the purported report as cruel, urging the Adelekes to stop attacking “a defenceless lady who merely asked that she be allowed to enjoy the fruit of motherhood.”
Find below the response.
He said his cousin has been scandalised with the laboratory result alleging she’s a cannabis smoker.
“She was said to have infected her own baby with cannabis. The vicious authors expected some gullible people to believe them.
“Nothing could have been cruellest. Our initial reaction was to maintain the ceasefire but this latest attack against a defenceless lady who merely asked that she be allowed to enjoy the fruit of motherhood was the limit of recklessness and rascality.
“All sensible human beings should abhor and condemn this unwarranted fabrication of endless lies just to justify the act of forcefully detaching a baby from her biological mother.
“Check this picture well. That’s baby Imade with her aunt Ashley Adeleke who took her to Dubai a few months ago against her mother’s consent. The world has been told that the baby was so sick that she needed urgent medical attention in Dubai. Imade’s mother was deprived of attending personally to her own baby.
“Now wait for this; just imagine you’re the hapless mum of Imade; instead of receiving regular medical briefs from Ashley the Good Samaritan, you receive pictures of your own baby swimming with Ashley Coco inside the heavenly pool of Atlantis, The Palm Dubai, one of the most luxurious resorts in the world while anxiety is killing you back home.
“Baby Imade has been forcefully separated from her mum since July 11, 2015, when she was barely two months old. We’ve pleaded for months with the Adelekes to return the baby to her real mum. Sophie was allowed to visit her daughter once a week every Sunday inside Dr Adeleke’s guest quarters. We did not fight. We did not engage in social media wars.
“They said our family was too poor and beneath their status. We did not mind. They said Sophie was a gold-digger, we did not respond.
“We only kicked when Baby Imade was to be taken out again without the mum’s necessary consent. No one asked them to take Sophie along. We only tried to stop the impunity and dehumanisation of a poor mother. We acted within the ambit of the law. No more,” he said.
