YouTube Kids now available in parts of Africa

YouTube Kids
, an app for kids to find videos on topics they want to explore with their parents, is now available in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
The app contains family-friendly content from creators around the world, and key features to make the whole experience worthwhile for kids.
The app is beautifully designed with larger images and bold icons for easy navigation, and has in-built voice search function, which helps in situations where kids can’t spell correctly.
As for the content, they are family-friendly and tailored specifically for kids. They can browse channels and playlists in four categories: Shows, Music, Learning and Explore.
Favourite shows like LittleBabyBum, The ChuChuTV, Sockeye Media and Peppa Pig are available, and there are popular content from beloved African creators too.
Because kids will be kids, parents were brought into the mix to help control the experience.
The app has a search setting to enable parents specify how broadly they want their kids to explore; Timer to specify how long they want their kids to watch; Sound settings; and passcode customization options.
Most importantly, parents can learn how the app works beforehand. They can learn how to choose and recommend content, flag videos, and whatnot.
“We’re excited to bring YouTube Kids to parts of Africa, and look forward to your ideas too so that we can better help your family explore, learn and sing along. From our family to yours, happy exploring!,” said Teju Ajani, YouTube Content Partnerships lead, SSA.
To download the app, head over to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
