Technology meets entertainment @ Glo Slide ‘N’Bounce concert
Call it the mobile music train, and you would have summed up the whole essence of Globacom’s recent music concert tagged Glo Slide N bounce. One, it takes mobile phone users, particularly those on Glo network to gain entrance to the concert.
Two, the music train moves around the length and breadth of the country to fish out young talents and also to entertain, give more value to mobile subscribers whose average revenue spending keep the network in business.
The beauty of the concert which has continued to distinguish the indigenous network operator as torch bearers in the discovery of local talents, is that every town the concert train berths many young talents begin their journey to stardom. So many Nigerian music talents, dancers and other acts build their careers climbing same stage with already established ones and thereafter, the stage keeps getting up rather than down for them.
So when the city of Egbeda in Alimosho area of Lagos metropolis hosted the music train, last week, the residents confessed to additional value to their investment on their mobile lines, when two music acts, Afro hip hop king, Flavour and his upcoming counterpart, Ahmed Adeola, known as Supa Rymez literally tore the stage into two.
In the tradition of the concert, up coming acts were given opportunity to do their thing, apparently to give room for record labels and entertainment enthusiasts to see talents they may be interested in sponsoring or promoting.
However, due to knowledge of the organizers in entertainment business, there was no space for mediocrity. Mounting the stage to perform meant you knew your acts or the combination of Jimmie De Hype who compered the event and DJ Neptune who handled turntables would throw you out before the crowd would hear your message.
That actually was what happened to many ill prepared upcoming artistes on the day. But with Supa Rymez, the atmosphere was charged and the taste of what to come began to show. The rendition of his hit single, One Parole got the crowd off their seats and it was standing ovation for the 18 year old kid all through to the end of his performance.. Both the compere and the Disc Jokey publicly confirmed that the kid was good and definitely has a space in the trail blazing music industry
Thereafter, top acts like Ego Reekado Banks and Di’Ja lit up the atmosphere the more with their popular numbers.
However, the climax of the night was when popular act, Flavour mounted the stage. The fans who had eernestly waited for his arrival began to wave their Glo phones, which was their ticket, on the air.
The Afro hip hop crooner, electrified the show, that one of the participants who spoke to Vanguard, admitted that ” I just bought my Glo line so few months back but I wish I had done that years before. This is wonderful”
