SPEAKER of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Victor Edoror, yesterday, described as untrue the report that the state House of Assembly may have been directed by Governor Adams Oshiomhole to impeach his deputy, Dr Pius Odubu, because of the latter’s ambition to succeed the former.
A group, under the aegis of ‘Let the People Lead Vanguard’, had, in a publication, raised the alarm that members of the state Assembly, in Asaba, for a week induction, had perfected a plot to impeach Odubu.
Edoror and another member of the state House of Assembly, Mr Crosby Eribo, expressed shock over the report, asserting that they were only in Asaba for legislative duties and not to discuss impeachment.
“We have been in Asaba attending an induction which we were supposed to attend last year but because of paucity of funds we could not. So I am really shocked to hear about impeachment, I think it is the figment of the imagination of those spreading such rumours. We have never discussed any issue of impeachment, may be those who wants to make money from the deputy governor are the ones spreading such rumours”, the Speaker stated.
Also speaking, Eribo said: “We were actually receiving calls from Benin, people were telling us that we were planning to impeach the deputy governor but that was stupid and I told them. We were in Asaba where we received lectures from past Speakers of the state Assembly. This induction was supposed to have come last week but because of money it was delayed”.
